REACH Bahamas, FirstCare Medical Plan and The Ministry of Education has teamed up to host an essay competition to increase autism awareness among local high school students in The Bahamas. The competition is opened to high school students from grades 10 to 12. Each competitor has to write an 800 – 1000 word essay on the topic, “Autism in The Bahamas: Inclusion, Advocacy & Dispelling Myths”. Student submissions will be accepted through May 16, 2014.
FirstCare Medical Plan, has pledged to sponsor the competition and give the grand prize winner $300. The first and second runner-up would be given $200 each and each winner will also be provided with additional prizes from supporting corporate sponsors including The Shoe Village and Custom Computers.
R.E.A.C.H. Bahamas is a non-profit organization that provides parents with autistic children the comprehensive knowledge and tools to treat the disorder.
